A highlight of the ceremony was the Student Orator speech, delivered by social work graduate Monika Rodrigues, who reflected on her own six-year journey through Highlands College and and UCJ, while paying tribute to those who helped shape her success. She reminded her fellow graduates that while academic achievement is important, graduation is also a moment to recognise personal growth.
The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all. We often focus on what we've learned, but we rarely realise how much we've changed until we stop and look back.
Reflecting on the support she received during her time at UCJ, Monika spoke about the lasting impact tutors, classmates, family members and mentors can have on a person's life. Drawing on her placement experiences with Mencap and Children's Services, she spoke passionately about inclusion, compassion and the importance of adapting support to meet the needs of individuals.
The Class of 2026 now joins the growing network of UCJ alumni, taking their knowledge, skills and experiences into workplaces, communities and organisations across Jersey and beyond. Congratulations to all UCJ graduates of 2026. We wish you every success in the next chapter of your journey.
