Financial Support for apprenticeships

If you’re thinking about becoming an apprentice - or you're an employer wanting to take one on - finance is available from the Government of Jersey to support apprenticeship training for individuals who meet certain eligibility criteria. In general, apprentices may be eligible if:

  • The apprentice is ordinarily resident in Jersey
  • The apprentice is aged 16 or over
  • The apprentice is entering into a formal apprenticeship with a registered employer
  • The apprenticeship is delivered through an approved training provider, such as Highlands College.

Apprenticeship funding is available for both new apprentices and those continuing their training into further stages.

Please note: Apprenticeship funding aims to cover course fees, and does not cover wages. Apprentice wages are paid by the employer, who enters into an employment contract with the apprentice.

Jersey Business Better Business grant

The Jersey Business Better Business Grant can help employers reduce the cost of taking on and apprentice. Eligible employers can access up to £2,000 per apprentice enrolled on a apprenticeship programme at Highlands College. The grant is designed to encourage businesses to develop local talent, build skills within their workforce, and support long-term business growth. Employers interested in applying should check the latest eligibility criteria and application guidance through Jersey Business.

Highlands Foundation

The Highlands College Foundation is an independent charity that provides financial support, equipment and guidance to help students and learners across all of the Highlands College educational areas. 

Funded through private donations, industry sponsorships and fundraising events, the Foundation offers bursaries, learning resources, and support for extra-curricular opportunities and personal development.

Prospective, current or past students of Highlands College and University College Jersey have access to support.

Laurens Baudains Trust Scholarship

The Laurens Baudains Trust provides financial support to Jersey residents undertaking accredited apprenticeship programmes. The Trust aims to help remove financial barriers to learning by offering assistance to eligible applicants who demonstrate a need for support. Funding is available to individuals studying in Jersey, helping apprentices access the education and training opportunities they need to achieve their career goals.
