Sixth Form WHAT TO EXPECT

It is important to us that we are as supportive and inclusive as possible as there are several differences between school and college. 
For example: 

  • You might start at different times on different days of the week
  • You may have a study day or have one day each week for work experience
  • You are not supervised in break times (time management)
  • You lead your independent study

WHAT'S ON

Sixth Form Freshers’ Fayre: An opportunity to meet local businesses, learn about student discounts and sign-up to enrichment activities.

Christmas Fayre: Shop at craft and gift stalls, taste deliciously baked goods or try out our pop-up salon hosted by our Hair & Beauty students.

Careers Fayre: An opportunity to network with local employers, find out more about possible careers and take part in games and competitions.

Sixth Form Festival: Our biggest celebration of the year! The Festival honours the amazing contribution sixth formers make to our college community, enjoy food, fun and fantastic entertainment.

Sixth Form Awards: This more formal evening is our opportunity to shine a spotlight on student excellence and achievement across all departments.

POLICY HIGHLIGHTS

ACCESSIBILITY

Highlands College has eleven main buildings, which are mostly accessible to wheelchair users. The main passenger lift in University Centre and the passenger lift in Turner Building (which runs between the basement and third floor), are reserved for visitors, staff, and students with enhanced mobility requirements. 

When using the stairs, please keep to the left. For everyone’s safety, running is not allowed on the stairs or in the corridors.

TRANSPORT

All students are eligible to access school buses using an Avanchi Card for £25 per year. This provides unlimited travel for those under the age of 19.

In addition to school travel, the card also offers use of buses during other times of the day and on weekends. 

You can apply for this online or visiting in person, you will just need some form of ID.

This will need to be renewed each year on your birthday.
