Storm Austen: Highlands College Closure
Highlands College and University College Jersey will be closed on Friday 23 October due to the expected impact of Storm Austen.
Following advice from the Government of Jersey and Jersey Met, all schools and colleges across the island will close on Friday (23 October) as a precautionary measure due to forecasted very strong winds and heavy rain.
Winds are expected to peak on Friday morning, reaching Gale Force 8 to Severe Gale Force 9, with gusts of 70-80 mph. Conditions are forecast to gradually ease during the afternoon, although strong and gusty winds are expected to persist throughout the day.
While Storm Austen is not expected to be as severe as Storms Ciarán or Goretti, disruption to travel, damage to trees and localised flooding is possible.
