The trip would not have been possible without the preparation from the JOA team. From safeguarding and health briefings, to cultural awareness and leadership support, every aspect of the training gave us the confidence to represent Jersey with pride. Thanks also must go to Mick and Pat from Highlands College Building Trades, whose practical construction training ensured we arrived ready to contribute from day one. Their enthusiasm, and patience, paid dividends on site.
We are incredibly fortunate to have the support of the Government of Jersey, whose continued commitment to Jersey Overseas Aid enables volunteers, through dedicated annual leave, to take part in life-changing experiences such as this. The impact extends far beyond the communities we work alongside; it changes the volunteers too. I feel immensely proud to have been part of the JOA family and to have led such a committed, caring and inspirational team.
