Who is this course for?
Are you interested in working with people to provide beauty treatments that help them to look and feel well?
In Year 1 (Level 2), you will develop your skills in areas such as: facials, eye treatments, waxing, manicure, pedicure, make-up, the principles of health and safety, and reception duties.
In Year 2 (Level 3), you will extend your Beauty Therapist skills by covering a larger range of specialist beauty treatments including: body massage, body and facial electrical treatment, aromatherapy, and Indian head massage.
You will also develop your business and sales skills by learning about the financial aspects of running a Beauty Business, and how to go about promoting additional goods and services.
What are the entry requirements for the course?
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade D (grade 3) or higher, including Maths or English Language to start Level 2.
All learners who have not achieved a grade 4 in English and Maths will be enrolled on the iGCSE programmes as part of this programme of study.
How long is this course?
Both Level 2 and Level 3 are one-year full-time courses.
Level 2 must be completed to progress to Level 3.
This programme commences in September 2022 and running the course is minimum number dependent.
What will I study on this course?
Level 2 Units:
- Consultations and analysis of the skin.
- Manicure, including gel nails.
- Pedicure, including gel nails.
- Waxing.
- Lash and brow tinting and shaping.
- Facial.
- Reception.
- Health and safety.
- Anatomy and psychology.
Level 3 Units:
- Anatomy and psychology.
- Facial and body electrical.
- Aromatherapy.
- Body massage.
- Indian head massage.
- Micro-dermabrasion.
- Tanning.
- Intimate waxing.
What Qualification will I gain?
VTCT Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy.
Will I go out on work experience?
Courses at Highlands are about preparing you for the world of work. As part of your course, you will learn how to go about presenting yourself to an employer to stand the best chance of getting the job you are looking for.
You will spend one day per week in a work placement.
What does this course lead on to?
Once qualified to Level 3 as a Beauty Therapist, you will have gained the skills and confidence to apply for jobs in areas such as salons, hotels, health spas, cruise liners, and department stores.
It will also enable you to progress onto business-related higher education courses, or careers in theatrical and film makeup.
