Jersey Progression Qualification in Creative Arts

Who is this course for?

This course is specially designed for students who are enthusiastic about Creative Arts (Art, Media or Performing Arts) and wish to study in this area, whilst at the same time improving their academic profile.

It is specifically intended as a progression route to a level 3 course, either in Art & Design, Media Production, Performing Arts or another subject. You will develop a range of practical, transferable and academic skills designed to aid your progression to higher levels of study, including employability, ICT and the opportunity to improve your English & Maths.

 

What are the entry requirements for the course?

You need five GCSEs at grades 3 or 2 (grade E-D) or higher, including BOTH Maths and English Language.

 

How long is this course?

This is a one-year full-time course commencing September, ending in June.

 

What will I study on this course?

You will develop a range of practical and academic skills which will allow you to progress to higher level study in either Media, Art or Performing Arts.  The content of the course is specifically designed to allow maximum flexibility so that you have the opportunity to experience a range of creative subjects.

Units include:

Individual Creative Project – In this unit, you will draw on the skills that you have developed in unit 9 (Specialist Studies) to plan and produce original creative work working independently and to a deadline.

Creative Core Skills – In this unit, you will develop a range of skills that are important in all areas of the creative industry. You will be required to use these skills in many of the projects that you undertake in other units.

Collaborative Creative Project – In this unit, you will draw on the skills that you have developed in other units to contribute to the production of creative work as part of a team. 

Working in the Industry – This unit will develop your readiness for the world of work. Through research activities you will develop an awareness of your industry sector and the opportunities that may be open to you. You will assess your current employability skills, plan for and undertake work-related developmental activities. This unit concludes with an opportunity to re-assess your skill set and the progress made.

Planning & Project Management – In this unit, you will learn about the skills, tools and documents required to effectively plan and organise your projects. 

Creative Software – 

Creative Equipment & Materials – In this unit, you will learn to produce creative work using a range of equipment and materials and how these can be used to communicate messages and ideas.

Creative Skills & Techniques – In this unit, you will build on your experience working with equipment and materials and learn how to apply specialist skills and techniques to produce creative work.

Specialist Studies – In this unit, you will select one or more creative areas that you would like to explore in more depth and develop your understanding and skills in your chosen area.

 

What Qualification will I gain?

NCFE Jersey Progression /Certificate Diploma in Creative Arts.

Students must pass all units to gain the Diploma.

 

Will I go out on work experience?

You will have the opportunity to undertake a range of work related learning activities, such as access to formal work experience placements, working on projects for real-world clients and personal development activities.

 

What does this course lead on to?

Successful completion of this course to the required standard allows access to most Level 3 courses at Highlands College, including but not limited to Level 3 Extended Diplomas in Art, Media Production or Performing Arts.

Additional Information

The course covers art and design skills, media production skills and performance skills such as acting and music production and performance. 

All 6th form courses are subject to minimum enrolment numbers. Where a course does not meet the required number, it will be reluctantly cancelled for that academic year. Applicants affected will be contacted and offered a transfer to another course if a suitable one is available.

Anyone who has been out of education for longer than 6 months will be invited for interview. Following interview, the application will be referred to a review panel.
