CPCAB Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills

Who is this course for?

This is a course for people who want to learn initial counselling skills to help and support others, either in a voluntary or employed capacity. This is more than just a ‘taster’ course and will give you the grounding to move on to our training programme at Highlands College. The course is accredited into the National Qualifications Framework by the Qualifications & Curriculum Authority (QCA). The awarding body is CPCAB (Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body).

Please note: The course is not suitable for those in “severe emotional difficulty or psychological confusion” as there is a great deal of personal disclosure and exploration during the 10 weeks.

 

What are the entry requirements for the course?

Minimum age of 18 years. No previous training or experience is required.

 

How long is this course?

This is a 10-week part-time course run at Highlands College.

Next course available: starting September 2021.

Wednesday evenings, from 6pm to 9pm.

What Qualification will I gain?

CPCAB Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills.

 

Will I go out on work experience?

Not required

 

How is the course assessed?

Candidates build a portfolio of their coursework and write a journal every week. They also complete a written ‘Self Review’ at the end of the course, and this is assessed by the tutor and quality assured by the awarding body. Students must submit their portfolio on the last day of the course and pass the internal assessment to receive the qualification.

 

What does this course lead on to?

Possible progression to the CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills course. 

Progression to the higher level courses is not guaranteed.
