Who is this course for?
Students who wish to study part-time whilst continuing to earn and learn their trade.
From the rebuilding of inner cities to remarkable constructions like the Channel tunnel, the world is full of building and infrastructure projects that couldn’t happen without civil engineers.
Civil engineering is a combination of many scientific specialisms including mechanics, hydraulics, geotechnics, materials science and mathematics.

You will learn to apply mathematics and scientific knowledge (particularly physics) to real-life situations and problems that arise from creating and maintaining structures, considering environmental, financial, legal and ethical considerations

How long is this course and when does it run?
This is a three-year programme which offers progression to Level 6 from the HNC Civil Engineering programme at University College Jersey.
It will next recruit for September 2025.

What are the entry requirements?
This course is a progression route from the HNC Civil Engineering at UCJ. Successful students can progress straight onto the B Eng (Hons
Applications from candidates with significant relevant professional experience or other related qualifications will be considered on their own merits.

What will I study on this course?
You will study theory and practice relating to the many diverse areas of civil engineering. The course covers (please note these are indicative only and are subject to change):
Year 1
Engineering hydraulics; Design of Elements; EBIM and Design; Structures and Construction Management
Year 2
Advanced Mathematics; Soil Mechanics; Structures and Design; Group Design Project
Year 3
Highway Engineering; Geotechnical Engineering; Environmental Engineering and PD; Individual Research Project

What qualification will I gain?
B Eng (Hons) Civil Engineering from London South Bank University

What does this course lead on to?
The career opportunities available to graduates of civil engineering are very diverse, from working as an engineering technician, surveyor or inspector of construction, to employment as a drafter creating visual guidelines for construction teams. Diversification into management, engineering research or professions that value a numerical degree such as accountancy or banking has also historically been a possibility. Wherever an economy is strong there is an increase in demand for professionally qualified civil engineers, so overseas travel is also a possibility.
