Who is this course for?

The course is aimed at Project Managers adding to their knowledge of traditional approaches such as Prince2®, or who are operating in an agile environment running more complex and scalable projects.

Agile PM guidance offers a practical and repeatable methodology that achieves an ideal balance between the standards, rigour and visibility required for good project management, and the fast pace, change and empowerment provided by Agile.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

The Practitioner course is only open to those who have previously taken and successfully passed the APMG Agile PM Foundation certification.

You can choose to complete the Foundation as a standalone qualification

How long is this course?

This course is delivered over 4 days using MS Teams. The focus of our training is on the learning and not the teaching. Therefore, unlike majority of other training providers having a block of four consecutive training days, we spread our virtual sessions spread over 2 to 3 weeks, allowing our participants to:

Have an opportunity to make appropriate notes and digest their learning, before moving on to the next element. All our webinar sessions are recording, allowing our colleagues to view the sessions again and run these to suit their learning styles.
Apply the learning to the way their organisation and change initiatives are being managed, including their personal role and responsibility. Additionally, the participants can understand the different roles and documentations they might come across.
Increase their chances of success in their examinations. We currently have a 100% pass rate at Change Management examinations, over 10 years

What will I study on this course?

The course is equally divided between the theory of agile project management, and the practical experience of techniques and disciplines involved.

This combined e-Learning package provides you with access to both the APMG Agile PM Foundation and the APMG Agile PM Practitioner e-Learning courses for 4 months.

Agile PM Foundation

On the Foundation course you will learn:

The underpinning philosophy and principles of Agile.
The lifecycle of an Agile project.
The products produced during an Agile project and their purpose.
Agile techniques and how to deliver solutions in an Agile way.
When to use an Agile approach to project delivery.
The roles and responsibilities within an Agile project.

Agile PM Practitioner

The Practitioner course builds on the principles and techniques covered in the Agile PM Foundation and delves deeper into the practicalities of making them work. This is an extensive course which provides in-depth knowledge and prepares delegates for roles where they are leading agile projects.

On this course you will learn:

How to apply a variety of Agile practices in a project, e.g. Facilitated workshops, MoSCoW prioritisation, Iterative Development and Modelling.
How to test, estimate, and evaluate benefits delivery in an Agile project.
The mechanisms for facilitation and support within an Agile project.
The Agile approach to managing and prioritising requirements.

What Qualification will I gain?

AgilePM® covers the certification by APMG and is based on the Agile Business Consortium’s Agile Project Framework that has been created to sit alongside PRINCE2® as an approach to project management.

Will I go out on work experience?

This course is best suited for people who have some experience of working in Agile project teams and who want to become Agile Project Managers.

How is the course assessed?

Exam-based assessment, as follows:

Foundation: 40 minutes, closed book, 50 multiple choice questions (25 marks required to pass out of 50 available).

Once you have passed the exam you will be awarded the internationally recognised Agile Foundation certification from APMG International.

Practitioner: 2½ hours, open book (AgilePM® Handbook v2 only). Applied knowledge, questions based on case studies (4 questions, 20 marks per question).

Once you have passed the exams you will be awarded the internationally recognised Agile PM Practitioner certification from APMG International.

You will then be qualified and ready to lead Agile Projects in organisations.

Photo ID is required to take these exams.

Pre-course materials:

There is no pre-reading required in order to take this e-Learning course because the course is divided into a modular format which follows the structure of the handbook exactly.
The best advice for successful completion of the e-Learning course is for students to first read the chapter, and then take the relevant module in the e-Learning. The course is well-structured and easy to navigate so that you are able to progress through the e-Learning modules at the same time as the handbook.

Course objectives:

To give delegates a practical understanding of Agile Project Management .
This will enable delegates to become immediately productive as a project manager in an Agile project environment.
To highlight the difference between simple lightweight Agile approaches which typically operate at the solution delivery (or ‘work package’) level, and the greater holistic view of how multiple work streams are co-ordinated with the appropriate level of governance and control.

The course also prepares delegates for the Foundation and Practitioner exams.

What are the entry requirements for this course?

Entry requirements differ depending on the course; you may be required to attend an interview in the first instance to assess the suitable of the qualification for your learning and requirements. Please contact the relevant department’s Course Administrator to discuss this further.

Who do I make cheques payable to?

Cheques should be made out to “Treasurer of the States”. If you are applying for more than one course, please enclose separate cheques for each. This will enable us to return fees for courses that are already full and still process other applications without delay. You may also pay by MasterCard, Visa or Maestro by filling out the required card details.

Can I pay the course fee by instalments?

In some instances an instalment plan may be possible, please discuss this with the Course Administrator.

When do courses run?

Highlands College part-time courses vary in length from evening or half-day workshops to two or three academic years. The majority of courses follow an academic timetable and may exclude half terms, bank holidays or other breaks.

What happens if the course I want is full?

Our policy is to accept applications on a first-come, first-served basis on receipt of fees. However, if a course is full a person’s name can be added to a waiting list. If the list is sufficiently large and additional tutors and facilities are available, another course may be set up and you will be contacted.

What if my course is relocated, rescheduled or cancelled?

We make every effort to avoid doing this, but occasionally it is necessary. This is why it is vitally important for us to have your current telephone numbers or e-mail address in order that we can contact you as speedily as possible. If you have a mobile telephone number, we may use a text message service to inform you of any changes to your course. Please note; our text message service is a non-reply service.

Why are some courses cancelled?

A minimum enrolment number is required to recover the full costs of providing the course. If numbers of students fail to reach this minimum, we reluctantly cancel it. We contact the applicants and provide a full refund, or offer a transfer to another course if a suitable one is available.

How will my course be assessed?

Assessment varies depending on the course; some may require formal written or practical assessment or attendance at examinations.

If I can no longer attend the class, can I get a refund?

Unfortunately we only offer a refund if your course has been cancelled by Highlands College. Circumstances such as illness, work commitments or leaving the Island are not considered for refunds. In some instances course fees may be able to be transferred to a module/unit within the same qualification. Fees or course places cannot be transferred to another person.
