What are the entry requirements for the course?

The course is open to anyone who is involved in management of projects. There is no pre-requisite to join the course.

However those wishing to take their Agile PM Practitioner examination must first succesfuly complete their Agile PM Foundation examination.

How long is this course?

This course is delivered over four days using MS Teams. The focus of our training is on the learning and not the teaching. Therefore, unlike majority of other training providers having a block of four consecutive training days, we spread our virtual sessions spread over two to three weeks, allowing our participants to:

Have an opportunity to make appropriate notes and digest their learning, before moving on to the next element. All our webinar sessions are recorded, allowing colleagues to view the sessions again and run these to suit their learning styles.
Apply the learning to the way their organisation and change initiatives are being managed, including their personal role and responsibility. Additionally, the participants can understand the different roles and documentation they might come across.
Increase their chances of success in their examinations. We currently have a 100% pass rate at Change Management examinations, over 10 years.

What will I study on this course?

AgilePM® is the world’s leading certification in Agile Project Management, with over 100,000 exams taken worldwide. Businesses today need results faster and more efficiently. Project management needs to be flexible to adapt to changing circumstances, but still deliver. AgilePM balances robust governance with a collaborative culture that inspires innovation and improves competitive advantage.

Developed by the not-for-profit Agile Business Consortium and accredited by the examination institute APMG International, AgilePM is based around eight principles and combines flexibility with sufficient forward planning, and collaboration to ensure goals are well understood by all stakeholders.

The world of project management has changed significantly over recent years. Until recently, much of the corporate world predominantly used traditional, sequential, “waterfall” approaches for projects.

Far too many projects were failing, for a variety of reasons, but mainly because projects were just too big and too long, communication and business engagement were poor and progress was measured in percentage complete, rather than business value delivered.

AgilePM guidance offers a practical and repeatable methodology that achieves an ideal balance between the standards, rigour and visibility required for good project management, and the fast pace, change and empowerment provided by agile.

The focus is on developing solutions incrementally enabling project teams to react effectively to changing requirements, whilst empowering project personnel and encouraging increased collaboration and ownership.

The guidance is based on the Agile Business Consortium’s Agile Project Framework and is underpinned by the framework’s eight principles for effective agile project delivery:

The AgilePM guidance and supporting training courses explain how to lay the foundations for successful agile projects and manage an agile project from start to finish.

How is the course assessed?

Foundation examination

The Foundation Examination tests the general understanding of the fundamental principles of Agile Project Management. This is intended for those who intend to work within a project enviroment and who need to know the terminology used and some of the theory behind the practice. It is also a preamble to the Practitioner of qualifications.

The Foundation Examination is closed book with short answer and multi-choice questions. There are 50 questions. Total time available is 40 minutes. Pass mark is 50%. For a candidate to proceed to take the Practitioner level qualification, they will need to pass their Foundation Examination.

Practitioner Examination

The Practitioner Examination requires a comprehensive understanding of the principles and theory of the Agile Project Management handbook.

The Practitioner Examination is an open book and scenario based with objective style questions. The paper consists of 4 questions, each worth 20 marks, giving a total of 80 marks. The examination must be completed within 2 and a half hours. Candidates need to achieve a 50% (score of 40) to pass the paper.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the entry requirements for this course?

Entry requirements differ depending on the course; you may be required to attend an interview in the first instance to assess the suitable of the qualification for your learning and requirements. Please contact the relevant department’s Course Administrator to discuss this further.

Who do I make cheques payable to?

Cheques should be made out to “Treasurer of the States”. If you are applying for more than one course, please enclose separate cheques for each. This will enable us to return fees for courses that are already full and still process other applications without delay. You may also pay by MasterCard, Visa or Maestro by filling out the required card details.

Can I pay the course fee by instalments?

In some instances an instalment plan may be possible, please discuss this with the Course Administrator.

When do courses run?

Highlands College part-time courses vary in length from evening or half-day workshops to two or three academic years. The majority of courses follow an academic timetable and may exclude half terms, bank holidays or other breaks.

What happens if the course I want is full?

Our policy is to accept applications on a first-come, first-served basis on receipt of fees. However, if a course is full a person’s name can be added to a waiting list. If the list is sufficiently large and additional tutors and facilities are available, another course may be set up and you will be contacted.

What if my course is relocated, rescheduled or cancelled?

We make every effort to avoid doing this, but occasionally it is necessary. This is why it is vitally important for us to have your current telephone numbers or e-mail address in order that we can contact you as speedily as possible. If you have a mobile telephone number, we may use a text message service to inform you of any changes to your course. Please note; our text message service is a non-reply service.

Why are some courses cancelled?

A minimum enrolment number is required to recover the full costs of providing the course. If numbers of students fail to reach this minimum, we reluctantly cancel it. We contact the applicants and provide a full refund, or offer a transfer to another course if a suitable one is available.

How will my course be assessed?

Assessment varies depending on the course; some may require formal written or practical assessment or attendance at examinations.

If I can no longer attend the class, can I get a refund?

Unfortunately we only offer a refund if your course has been cancelled by Highlands College. Circumstances such as illness, work commitments or leaving the Island are not considered for refunds. In some instances course fees may be able to be transferred to a module/unit within the same qualification. Fees or course places cannot be transferred to another person.
