Highlands College’s IT Department is to launch two brand new digital courses in 2018 to provide vital digital skills to Jersey’s 16-18 year olds.
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Digital Media Production with Digital Games and the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Information Technology will offer students the opportunity to acquire the skills and understanding to critically engage with a rapidly changing and vibrant industry.
With computer games being one of the fastest growing fields in the digital industry, and the UK seeing a recent exponential growth in digital innovation, both courses will prove a crucial boost to Jersey’s digital landscape.
The BTEC Level 3 Game Design course not only focuses on specialist units in game development, but also includes programming, app design, web design, graphics (2D/3D) and animation. The aim is to provide students with the skills to set them on a path to working in the computer games industry, as well as providing them with sufficient knowledge to support work in other digital media industries.
The new BTEC Level 3 in Information Technology course will focus on software development, computer systems, networking, cyber security, IT support and data handling and analysis.
Both two-year full-time courses start in September 2018 and upon successful completion will qualify students to enter into higher education. Applications are being accepted now.
