Level 2 JPQ Diploma in Building Trades

Introduction

This one-year course provides a practical introduction to the construction industry, giving students the opportunity to explore and develop skills across a range of building trades. It is ideal for full-time learners who are interested in pursuing a career in construction and wish to progress into the industry through further training or an apprenticeship.

Students will attend college up to four days per week, taking part in a structured timetable that includes both practical workshops and classroom-based theory. The course covers core trade areas, including:

  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Blockwork

Starting in September, the course is designed to build foundational knowledge, improve practical ability, and prepare learners for progression into a trade-specific apprenticeship or further study within the construction sector.

You will be encouraged to attend a work placement to gain valuable experience of the sector you are about to work in. The college will support in finding a suitable employer but you are encouraged to seek your own sponsor where possible. Attendance and performance on the course will be monitored and could influence an employers decision to engage with you.
