Level 3 Diploma Low Carbon Heat Technician
Introduction
This occupation involves the design, installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of zero-carbon heating and hot water systems across residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Systems include air and ground source heat pumps and solar thermal technologies, with responsibility for fault diagnosis and repair throughout the system lifecycle.
The role covers work on both new-build and existing properties. This includes appliances, storage vessels, pipework, heat emitters and associated mechanical and electrical controls.
The role involves regular interaction with customers and end users, requiring strong customer service and communication skills. It is physically demanding and may include manual handling, working at height and in confined spaces.
Individuals work both independently and as part of a wider team, collaborating closely with site management, colleagues and other trades. A commitment to your own learning and performance in a working environment is essential.
The NOCN Level 3 Diploma in Low Carbon Heating Technician apprenticeship can be completed in two years by learners who have already achieved the Jersey Progression Diploma in Mechanical Services (JPQ) or a Level 2 qualification in Plumbing or Electrical.
Applications are welcomed from individuals with these prior qualifications, as relevant assessments may be recognised through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and count towards the Level 3 diploma. This prior knowledge and experience enable learners to complete the Level 3 apprenticeship within a two-year timeframe.
