Who is this course for?
This diploma is ideal for anyone who has at least 6 months experience working in a residential childcare or respite care setting with children from Birth to 25 years (extended age range takes account of entitlements for children and young people with complex disabilities or conditions).
What are the entry requirements for the course?
A successful interview, a written task, a satisfactory DBS/Police Check (enhanced check) and reference will need to be completed prior to enrolment on this course. No formal qualifications are required, but candidates must be working in a residential childcare setting, on a permanent contract, for a minimum of 15 hours a week and have been doing so for 6 months prior to the start of the course. All learners will need access to a P.C or laptop.
How long is this course?
A 30–week course spanning over an academic year commencing September 2021.
18 months is given for assessment in the workplace and completion of the diploma.

What will I study on this course?
Candidates must complete 61 credits to gain the diploma. The qualification enables the candidate to gain essential skills and knowledge to support children and young people in residential childcare settings, including: wellbeing and resilience, positive relationships and attachments, health and safety, sexual exploitation, communication, positive behaviour and positive outcomes.
What Qualification will I gain?
Work based assessment and a complete portfolio will gain you a NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England)
Will I go out on work experience?
At least 6 months experience working in a residential childcare or respite care setting with children from birth to 25 years.
How is the course assessed?
Assessment of competence in the workplace is necessary together with written assignments, assignment–based reflection and reflective journals making up a portfolio of knowledge.
What does this course lead on to?
Possible progress on to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England), or a ‘Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies’
How much will it cost?
2021 – £1607 course fee (covers administration, assessment and verification costs) PLUS £141 registration fee with NCFE CACHE, the awarding body.
