Who is this course for?
It is ideal for anyone already working in the childcare field with children aged 0-19 years and wishing to gain a recognised qualification. This qualification is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
What are the entry requirements for the course?
No formal qualifications are required, but candidates must be working in the sector, paid or voluntary, with children 0-19 years for a minimum of 2 days a week (or 15 hours) and have been doing so for 6 months prior to the start of the course. A good level of literacy is needed. A successful interview and a satisfactory Police Check.
How long is this course?
A 15-week part-time course spanning over an academic year approximately every other Friday. This will commence on 21st September 2018. Alternative Fridays from 9.30am to 2.30pm. 1 year is given for assessment in the workplace and completion of the award (This course will only run if there are sufficient numbers).
What will I study on this course?
Candidates must complete 36 credits to gain the certificate; these credits are made up from Mandatory and Optional Pathway units. Examples of the Mandatory units to be offered are: Introduction to communication in children’s and young people’s settings; Child and young person development; Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people; Support children and young people’s positive behaviour.
What Qualification will I gain?
Work based assessment and a complete portfolio will gain you a Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce.
How is the course assessed?
Assessment of competence in the workplace is necessary together with some assignment based work, making up a portfolio of knowledge.
What does this course lead on to?
Possible progression onto Level 3 CACHE Diploma for the Early Years Workforce or Diploma in Support for Teaching and Learning

£890 – This includes the course at Highlands College plus registration with CACHE, the awarding body, and asessment and verification costs.
