All the aforementioned Degrees are studied at University College Jersey in collaboration with London South Bank University. The degree is accredited by The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
How much will it cost?
Changes to the funding arrangements for the HNC Diploma and Degrees in Construction
From September 2018, the way in which the HNC Diploma in Construction is funded will change to bring it in line with the new States of Jersey funding arrangements for Higher Education. This policy enables students who are studying for their first level 4, 5 and 6 qualifications, and whose household income is less than £110,000 per year, to have their tuition fees paid by Student Finance.
In practice, this means that instead of the employer paying the fee, the employed student has their fees paid on a part-time basis by government through the student finance scheme. The maximum allowance for fees on a part-time basis is £4,625 per year.
The tuition fee for new entrants to the HNC in Construction for September 2021 will be £4,194 for each of the two years. This is still cheaper than the fees charged by London South Bank University in the UK and enables the student to continue to live and work in Jersey.
The grant for fees is means tested based on the income of the student (if they are 25 or over) or the students’ parents (if they are under 25). The full grant of £4,194 for tuition fees is payable if earnings are below £110,000. For further details, please contact the Student Finance office on 449450.
The Department of Education will continue to subsidise students who are currently enrolled in year 1 of the HNC Construction course and they or the employer will be charged £1,230 to progress into year 2.
The student and/or employer will be required to pay an additional £300 in year one to cover the cost of travel and accommodation for the week’s residential in London which is not covered by student finance.
The revised fee structure reflects the actual cost of offering on-island opportunities to work and learn. The only difference in these new arrangements being that the grant funding that the college hitherto received directly from government will be received entirely from the student fee element. Where an employee is eligible for grant funding, there is no longer a requirement for the employer to pay a fee.
