Who is this course for?
This exciting two-year degree course is aimed at students who are intending to pursue a career in business management. The degree includes 20 weeks of paid work-based learning, enabling the learner to gain an insight into the real world of commerce as well as developing a professional network. At the end of two years students can progress onto a “top up” year, BA (Hons) Business and Management, or head straight out to employment. In 2017 100% of graduates from this programme found employment straight away, or progressed successfully onto the honours year.
What are the entry requirements for the course?
- 64 UCAS points from a minimum of two full A levels (C grade or above) or equivalent
- GCSE Maths & English at grade 4 or above are mandatory
- Other level 3 qualifications will be considered and mature applicants with relevant experience will be considered on an individual basis.
- All candidates will need to have a successful interview. You will need to demonstrate a clean police record check for your work placement.
How long is this course?
A two year full-time programme commencing every September.
What will I study on this course?
This programme offers the opportunity to develop the business and management skills in demand from a wide range of employers across the Jersey economy. Module titles include:
Year 1: Professional Practice, Business Information Systems, Business Relationship Management, Business Law & Regulation, Introduction to Accounting, IT & Numerical Analysis.
Year 2: Macro & Micro Economics, People & Organisations, Research, Analysis & Decision Making, Operations and Process Management, Marketing & Human Resources.

Will I go out on work experience?
The programme incorporates a significant amount of work-based learning and you will apply for a compulsory work placement. This will enable you to apply your academic learning to the workplace. The programme will also enable you to develop important transferable skills that will enhance your future employability.
How is the course assessed?
The method of assessment varies between modules and your tutors will advise you of the method(s) to be used. Examples include: business reports, examinations, literature reviews, seminars and presentations. The variety of assessment modules reflects the need for students to develop a range of different knowledge, understanding and skills.
What does this course lead on to?
At the end of the programme you will have the confidence and qualifications to pursue a career in management. You will have acquired the increased knowledge, skills and experience needed to make a positive contribution to an organisation and developed the work-related attitudes and aptitudes necessary to be successful within the sector.
If you wish to gain a full honours degree, you will be able to study at the University Centre to achieve the BA (Hons) Business & Management degree. Alternatively you may transfer to the University of Plymouth to study for a BA (Hons) Business
