* Please Note: due to the confusion in the U.K. with the awarding of student grades this year, the College has contacted all students with their correct final grades. This was done when they became available using various methods (SMS, email, post, or collection). If you haven’t received updated results, your grades remained unchanged. However, if you have any queries or are unsure, then contact the College on 01534 608 608. We are there to support you in your next steps. *

Update: BTECs to be regraded
Dear BTEC students
Following Ofqual’s announcement that A Level and GCSE students will now receive Centre Assessment Grades, you may have seen discussion this week both online and in the media around the awarding of BTEC results this summer.
Our priorities are to deliver fair outcomes for BTEC students in relation to A levels and GCSEs and to ensure that no student is disadvantaged. So, in light of Ofqual’s announcement, we decided to review our approach for BTEC students and have taken on board feedback from teachers, schools and colleges before making a number of changes.
As a result, we have decided to apply Ofqual’s principles for students receiving BTECs, which means we will now be regrading all BTECs awarded this summer – BTEC Level 3 Nationals (2010 QCF and 2016 RQF), BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Awards, BTEC Level 2 Technicals and BTEC Level 1/2 Firsts.
Because BTEC results are largely based on continuous teacher-assessed projects and assignments, grade outcomes have been generally consistent with teacher and learner expectations. However, we have become concerned about unfairness, including consistency with the approaches now being used for GCSE and A Levels.
This means we will now be removing Pearson calculated grades and allowing higher outcomes for the externally examined units so they are in line with those assessed by teachers. We believe this is now a more trusted source of evidence of learner attainment.
We understand that this could cause additional stress and uncertainty for you at this time and we are sincerely sorry.
We have written to schools and colleges this afternoon asking them not to issue any BTEC L1 and L2 results tomorrow, while we work to recalculate the final grades. For those Level 3 BTEC students who have already received results this summer, please be assured that no grades will go down as part of this review.
Once again, please accept my sincerest apologies. We will share more information as soon as we can, including when you should expect to receive your updated result. We are working urgently to reissue your grades and will update you as soon as we possibly can.
If you would like to contact us, please do so via this website or DM us at @BTECstudents where our team is waiting to help you.
