Since 2005 Highlands College has enrolled over 2000 students on various ESOL courses (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Students from over 30 different countries of origin have attended a large range of courses from Beginner to Advanced. Over 50 employers have sent students, recognising the value of these English language courses and the advantage of helping their employees improve their language skills and enhance their career prospects.

    ESOL Courses

    • ESOL Skills for Life Courses
Our ESOL Skills for Life courses are aimed at people living and working in Jersey who need English to ‘survive’ and function in an English-speaking environment. These courses start at total beginners level and progress to an Intermediate level of English. Students are offered the possibility of taking Cambridge Skills for Life examinations at the end of their course.
    • Cambridge Mainsuite Courses
We also offer the traditional EFL language courses such as Cambridge Preliminary English Test (PET), Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE), Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) and Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) which are all widely recognised internationally.
    • Cambridge Business Courses
In addition, we run Cambridge Business English (BEC) courses which focus on the learning of English in a professional and business context. These are internationally recognised business qualifications which are very popular as a means of gauging the language level of potential employees.

    Venues and times

We hold our ESOL courses both at Highlands College and at our partnership venue, The Welcome Centre, St. Thomas Church, St. Helier. Courses run throughout the week in the mornings, afternoons and in the evenings and we run courses all day on Saturdays.
