This is intended for candidates who wish to develop their knowledge of substance misuse in order to:
- Raise awareness of Substance Misuse and its consequences.
- Look at practical counselling skills.
- Improve the knowledge, awareness, understanding and effectiveness of those currently working in the field of Substance Misuse, supporting people involved in Substance Misuse or working to prevent Substance Misuse.
The course is not suitable for those experiencing severe emotional difficulty, current dependence or psychological confusion.
What are the entry requirements for the course?
The minimum age is 18 years. No previous training or experience is required.
How long is this course?
This is a 10 week part-time course that takes place on Wednesday evenings from 6-9pm commencing on 9th January 2019.
This course will only run if there are sufficient numbers.
What will I study on this course?
Effect of a range of drugs, including alcohol & information on how to recognise the signs of misuse. Health risks of different substances and associated behaviour. Factors influencing initial and continual use of drugs. Personal responses and issues related to substance use and misuse will also be explored.
What Qualification will I gain?
CPCAB Level 2 Award in Understanding Substance Misuse.
Will I go out on work experience?
How is the course assessed?
Candidates build a portfolio of their course work and write a journal every week. Students must pass both the internal and external assessment to receive the qualification. A minimum of 80% attendance is expected for students to complete the course.
What does this course lead on to?
This is a standalone qualification with possible progression to other counselling courses.
